Basic Genetics; Heredity and Traits (science)

By listening to the tour on http://learn.genetics.utah.edu, I have learned several interesting facts about heredity and traits. Traits are the notable quality in a person, the different combonation of traits that appear in each person are what make us all unique. We inherit traits from our parents, and later pass them on to our children, and so from generation to generation. However our surrounding environment can immensly affect our traits. For instance, our natural hair color can be easily changed from exposure to sun or hair dye. Two types of traits you may recieve could be physical or behavioural. For instance, if both your parents have brown eye, you have a 75% chance of having brown eyes as well.
This brings me to the basis of heredity, which would be the inheritance of traits from parent to child. Each parent at random pass on a set of 23 chromosones, in total 46 chromosones. In other words parents pass down genes to their kids, which encode instructions that define our traits. Each child however will recieve a unique set of chromosones, since chromosones are passed at random.
